Dheepa Ramanujam – The new mom of Tamil cinema

Dheepa Ramanujam is an artist associated with Tamil entertainment industry, associated with three mediums – theatre, television and movies. Currently she is one of the most sought actresses for playing mother’s role on big screen. A native of California earlier, she moved to India with dreams of a director but turned an actor in 1997. But later she earned recognition as a theatre artist too, who wrote and directed more than 10 plays, and has also been associated with theatre group Shraddha and many others. She has also done a few TV shows and films, mostly in character roles.

Dheepa Ramanujam is a native of Srivilliputtur, Virudhunagar. Earlier settled in Fremont, California she moved to India in the mid-1990s with dreams in the field of direction. However she got her first break to acting through Arunachalam in 1997, and since then has been regular in different forms of an entertainment, as an actor, producer, director as well as writer. K. Balachander’s television serial Premi marked her television debut, and later appeared in Meendum Kuttysathan and Sundharavanam. As a play director she earned recognition through Tamil play, Chillu.

1. Her husband’s name is T. A. Ramanujam, and they have one daughter, Akshaya.

2. She holds a Master’s degree in Foods and Nutrition.

3. Simbu’s ‘Idhu Namma Aalu’ marked her comeback to silver screen after a break.

4. Uttama Villain, Pasanga 2, Rajini Murugan, Pichaikkaran etc are some of her film roles.
