Chakka – Meen Kuzhachath (Jackfruit – Fish Mixed)

Ingredients for Chakka – Meen Kuzhachath (Jackfruit – Fish Mixed):

1. Well-ripened jackfruit (raw) with thick flesh – 1 kg

    Curry leaves – 3 stems

2. Fish – ½ kg

    Pot tamarind – 2 cloves

    Salt and water – As required

3. Bird’s eye chilli (Kanthari) – 1 tsp

    Shallots – 4 cloves

    Garlic – 4 cloves

    Ginger – 1 small piece

    Turmeric powder – 1 tsp

    Coconut scrapped – 2 cups

4. Coconut oil – 3 dessert spoons

5. Mustard – ½ tsp

    Rice – 1 tsp

    Onions chopped – 2 dessert spoons

    Red chillies split into three – 3

    Coconut scrapped – ½ cup

How to prepare Chakka – Meen Kuzhachath (Jackfruit – Fish Mixed)?

1. Slice jackfruit into thin pieces.

2. Cook fish adding ingredients no: 2.

3. Remove spines of fish and take flesh only.

4. Drain the leftover water of cooked fish.

5. Smash ingredients no: 3 together (similar to coconut for thoran).

6. Transfer jackfruit into an earthen pot, add water leftover after cooking fish.

7. Add excess water if needed.

8. Also add curry leaves and salt, and cook it well.

9. Smash it, once it’s done.

10. Place the coconut mixture at the centre portion of jackfruit and wrap it well.

11. Close the lid. Steam cook it.

12. When steam starts coming out, mix everything together.

13. Add cooked fish, and mix well. Put off the flame.

14. Heat oil and temper ingredients no: 5.

15. Add to your jackfruit-fish dish, and serve hot.
