SJ contributed majority of hit songs to Shammi Kapoor’s career, and it includes all genres – from rock and teasing numbers to soft solos and romantic ones. Though Shammi is associated with jazz and high beat numbers, he has also given one of the popular lullabies of Bollywood music – Mein Gaoon Tum So Jaao for the movie Brahmachari. Shammi portrayed the role of an orphan who takes care of many orphans. Apart from the fast track ‘Chakke Pe Chakke’ he also lip-synced for kid’s song – Mein Gaoon. “Dil Ke Jharokhe Mein” was tuned with fast beats. Yet it’s one of the best solo songs sung by Rafi for Shammi Kapoor. Janam Janam Ke Saath from Tumse Achha Kaun Hai is a beautiful song in the late 1960s, before  the magical journey of Shammi and SJ came to a seize.

There is one highly romantic solo song in Junglee, the movie known for high octave ‘Yahoo’ song – Ehsaan Tera Hoga Mujhpar. Music was composed by Shankar-Jaikishen who gave Shammi his career best songs. Among his high melodrama solo songs – Tum Mujhe Yu Bhula Na Paoge of Pagla Kahin Ka, Aye Gulbadan of Professor and Meri Mohabbat Jawan Rahegi of Janwar were composed by ace music director duo – Shankar Jaikishen. Nazar Bachakar Chale Gaye Woh of Dil Tera Deewana, “Tumne Kise Ki Jaan Ko” and “Is Rang Badalti Duniya Mein” of Rajkumar were instant chartbusters composed by SJ duo. R. D’s Teesri Manzil worth mentioning!

Tumne Mujhe Deka – Teesri Manzil

One of my personal favourites among Shammi Kapoor hits, Tumne Mujhe Dekha from Teesri Manzil is a favourite of many Bollywood fans. Among all the tracks of Teesri Manzil, I like this melodious song most. What an amazing tune and what a magical voice of Rafi! I can listen to this song hundreds of times without any hesitation. It’s one of the most romantic and intense songs pictured on Shammi Kapoor. Deewana Mujhsa Nahin Iss Ambar was a solo track belonging to the same movie.

Less but memorable hits in association with O. P. Nayyar

Yeh Duniya Use Ke from Kashmir Ki Kali

During his early days of 1950s most of his songs were composed by O. P. Nayyar, Ravi or debut music composers like Usha Khanna. Among all compositions by O. P. Nayyar, Kashmir Ki Kali is the best, which stands with all amazing compositions of Shankar Jaikishen for Shammi Kapoor. Yeh Duniya Use Ke is a soft solo number sung by Rafi for the movie Kashmir Ki Kali. The title track of Tumsa Nahi Sekha was one of the early hits of Rafi composed by O. P. Nayyar. 

Rafi remained the favourite male voice of Ravi, alongside Mahendra Kapoor. Jaane Bahaar Husn Tera Bemisaal Hai from Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya is one such soft and melodious track sung by Rafi.

Shammi Kapoor is best known for his fast tracks and teasing numbers filled with fun. Yet he was often seen in dramatic roles also occasionally. If I have missed any song of your favourite, please let me know.
