Ashmit Patel – Bollywood actor best known for his appearance in ‘Murder’

Ashmit Patel is Bollywood actor who plays lead roles on screen. He is the younger brother of popular Bollywood actress Ameesha Patel. As an actor he had only limited success as his elder sister, and is best known for his parallel lead in erotic romantic thriller, Murder released in 2004. He played Mallika Sherawat’s husband and also shared screen space with Emraan Hashmi in this super hit movie. He mostly appears in soft porn B-grade masala entertainers in Bollywood, and most of them were commercially unsuccessful. An MMS scandal and his relationship with his co-stars always kept him in limelight, rather than his performances in movies. However his appearance in Bigg Boss (season 4) in 2010 got noticed where he was evicted at 3^rd place on day 96.

Ashmit Patel is of Gujarat origin, and was born in year 1978. Originally he belongs to a family with political background. He is the grandson of Rajni Patel, well-known Congress politician, Union leader and lawyer. However he decided to follow the footsteps of his elder sister. He joined Bollywood soon after Ameesha Patel had a successful beginning in Hindi film industry in year 2000.

He completed his studies in US and then assisted his father in business before trying his luck in films. He started his career as an assistant director in Bollywood, and worked under Vikram Bhatt in many of his movies of early 2000s. Later he was launched as hero by Bhatt camp in 200s. Inteha directed by Vikram Bhatt marked his screen debut, where he played an anti-hero. The movie flopped at box office.

He tasted success through his second release, Murder released in 2004. However the hot scenes and amazing screen chemistry of Emraan Hashmi and Mallika Sherawat stole the show, and they got benefitted most. Murder, Nazar, Nirdosh, Inteha – Most of his noted appearances can be tagged as low budget thrillers, mainly investigation and suspect thrillers. Except his second movie, Murder, all movies flopped at box office. He played a negative role in his debut flick, Inteha, co-starring Vidya Malvade and Nauheed Cyrusi, and a policeman in Nazar, co-starring Pakistani actress Meera. He marks his web series debut through Peshawar, based on 2014 Peshawar school massacre and he portrays terrorist Abu Shamil, the mastermind behind the attack in this series.

Ashmit Patel and Mahek Chahal – when they were in a beautiful relationship

1. He was in relationship with Bollywood actress Mahek Chahal for 5 years, before they called it quit in 2020. The popular contestants of Bigg Boss have been good friends for 12 years, and were in a live-in-relationship after Ashmit proposed Mahek in 2017. There were rumours that they will be tying knot soon.

2. Ashmit Patel and Mahek Chahal have appeared together as celebrity guests for TV shows like Comedy Nights Bachao in 2016 and as contestants in Power Couple (2015-2016), where they got eliminated.

3. Murder (2004) was the second theatre release of both Ashmit Patel and Emraan Hashmi, and helped both to gain early recognition in Bollywood. In fact it was the first commercial hit of all the three lead actors, Ashmit Patel and Emraan Hashmi, alongside Mallika Sherawat.

4. Both Ashmit Patel and Emraan Hashmi were launched by Bhatt camp in same year – 2003, and their debut movies were flops. Both started their film journey as assistant directors under Vikram Bhatt. 8. He did his first lip lock scene with actress Meera in her debut movie, Nazar. The actress had to face wrath from Pakistani viewers for this single shot, and later the scene was removed by censor board because of controversies. Pakistani government also fined Meera for kissing Ashmit Patel onscreen.

9. Nazar was the first joint-production between India and Pakistan. His heroine Meera was the Pakistani actress to work in Bollywood, with Pakistani passport. (Pakistani actresses like Salma Agha and Zeba Bakhtiar were British passport holders). After the outrage in Pakistan, the movie was a flop.

10. After Meera in Nazar, he has done intimate scenes and lip locks with actresses Riya Sen in Silsilay and Mahek Chahal in Nirdosh too, and he was in a relationship with both these heroines at the time of movie shooting and release.

11. His name is also linked to an MMS Scandal, involving him and Riya Sen when they were in a relationship. Their intimate scenes got leaked, and went viral. It was rumoured that he purposefully released the porn MMS online to remain in spotlight. In the short video, both the actors appeared in a compromising position. Duo also split soon, ending their two-year old relationship. Later he released a rap song in his voice, as his response to the controversies.

12. Audience witnessed romance brewing between him and Veena Malik on the sets of Bigg Boss Season 4, where he finished in the third position. He also had a relationship with TV actress Sara Khan.

13. His name was coined from first three letters of his mother’s name Asha and the last three letters of his father’s name Amit, while his sister’s name was coined from the first three letters of her father’s name and the last three letters of her mother’s name.

14. He and Ameesha had a strained relationship for nearly 5 years, when Ameesha sent a legal notice to her father for mismanaging her accounts and assets in 2004. They patched up their relationship during Raksha Bandhan in 2009. Her indifference with parents also ended soon. 

15. Though most of his films met with failures, title songs of Dil Diya Hai and Nazar filmed on him were popular. Both these sensuous songs featured debutantes.
