Arjun Bhasin – The costume designer of Aamir Khan’s movies of 2000s

Arjun Bhasin is a costume designer and stylist best known for his association with international projects as well as a few projects of Aamir Khan, Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar. Dil Chahta Hai, Rang De Basanti and Gajini are his major projects starring Aamir Khan. With Akhtar siblings, he has done the projects, Dil Chahta Hai, Luck By Chance, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Lakshya etc. He designed costumes for internationally acclaimed Life of Pi and many other projects. Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd, Ramji Londonwale, The Reluctant Fundamentalist, Dil Dhaddakne Do, The Namesake etc are a few other works. His works on contemporary fashion has been well noticed.

Arjun Bhasin hails from Jamshedpur and has Parsi and Punjabi background. His sister Niharika Khan is a National award winning costume designer best known for her works of Rock On, Band Baaja Baaraat, The Dirty Picture etc. Niharika is married to Dilip Kumar’s nephew, Ayub Khan – a Bollywood and television actor. Arjun studied at New York University’s Tisch School of Arts and worked in a few Hollywood projects in the late 1990s before he moved back to India.

He started off at a very young age, and later his sister also took the same field after experience in other fields. Their styles are different. Dil Chahta Hai was his debut film. After the film’s success he worked in many Aamir Khan movies. His sister designed clothes for Aamir Khan’s production venture, Delhi Belly.

1. His sister Niharika Khan, a Bollywood costume designer is married to Ayub Khan, son of Bollywood actors of classic era, Nasir Khan and Begum Para.

2. He frequently worked with Mira Nair, for projects such as Monsoon Wedding.

3. Apart from Bollywood actors like Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan, he has also dressed up international stars like Diane Keaton, Morgan Freeman, Keira Knightley, Kate Hudson, Alfred Molina etc.

4. He is Mumbai based, and part-time New Yorker.

5. Niharika is his elder sister 5 years senior to him, though she is a junior to him in profession. In fact she got her first project Khoya Khoya Chand in 2007 when the film producers couldn’t afford New York based Arjun Bhasin.
