Amruta Khanvilkar – Noted Marathi and Hindi actress

Amruta Khanvilkar is a well-known actress of Marathi and Hindi entertainment industry. Best known for her appearance in reality shows, she also plays lead and supporting roles on Marathi and Hindi big screen. She has been a part of hit Bollywood movies like Satyameva Jayate, Raazi and Malang playing pivot roles. She played lead role in Ram Gopal Varma’s Phook, based on black magic which almost recovered the cost expenses. She has participated in many reality shows on television, and is known for her appearance in Khatron Ke Khiladi 10 in 2020 (eliminated in Week 5) and also Nach Baliye – 7 with her actor husband Himmanshoo A. Malhotra, which she won.

She finished third at India’s Best Cinestars Ki Khoj in 2004

Amruta Khanvilkar was born into a middle-class Marathi family in Pune in 1984. She is a trained dancer. She came to spotlight for the first time after she finished third at India’s Best Cinestars Ki Khoj – a talent hunt show which was aired on Zee TV in 2004. It opened her doors towards television, both as an actress and TV host. Ada in 2005 marked her debut as an actress, followed by Time Bomb 9/11. “Bollywood Tonight” which aired on Zee Music marked her debut as a TV anchor.

In 2006 she got her first break to films through Marathi movie, Golmaal, where she played double roles. The following year she marked her Bollywood debut with Mumbai Salsa, where she formed a part of ensemble cast. It was followed by Bollywood flicks – Hat Trick, Contract and Phoonk, with limited success.

She continued working in Marathi movies

After Golmaal, her second Marathi release was Saade Maade Teen, remake of Hindi classic comedy, Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi. She reprised Madhubala’s lead role in the film. Arjun, Zhakaas, Satrangi Re, Welcome Zindagi, Katyar Kaljat Ghusali, Baji, Shaala etc are a few more Marathi movies mostly playing lead roles. In 2018 she marked her web series debut with Damaged. She played serial killer, Lovina in the series, and her performance got noticed.

She married Himmanshoo A. Malhotra in 2015, and the couple won Nach Baliye – 7 the same year. They were co-participants and finalists (top three) of India’s Best Cinestars Ki Khoj, way back in 2004 and got attracted to each other. After a lot of troubles and good times, they finally got married. She contested in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 2015 and Khatron Ke Khiladi 10 in 2020, and also judged a few TV shows. She has been a part of Anil Kapoor’s TV series, 24.

1. She has appeared in many music videos. Aye Hip Hopper by Ishq Bector is one of the noted appearances.

2. She has anchored a few shows on television. She co-hosted ZEE Marathi’s dancing reality show “Dance Maharastra Dance” along with Siddharth Chandekar. She also hosted Comedy Express on ETV-Marathi.

3. For her appearance in Phoonk-2, she was nominated for Exciting New Face – Max Stardust Awards in 2009.

4. She is a spiritual person and a believer of Lord Shiva.

5. After Marathi movie, Katyar Kaljat Ghusli, she didn’t get offers for two years. Later she made a strong comeback through Raazi and Satyameva Jayate. She played Manoj Bajpai’s wife in Satyameva Jayate and Munira Syed in Raazi.

6. Best known for her dance movies, she participated in Marathi dance based reality show, Ekapeksha Ek. She was featured in “Wajle ki Bara” song for the Marathi movie Natarang, and her performance got noticed.

7. She made a special appearance in an item song “Dhoka Dhoka” for Ajay Devgan starrer Himmatwala.

8. She has agreed that she is not comfortable working with her husband. However they won Nach Baliye 7 as a couple.

9. “Splitsvilla” fame and TV actor Mohit Malhotra known for his charm looks and cute smile is her brother-in-law.
