45+ Sibling Actors of Bollywood


Indian film industry is the biggest of entertainment industries across the world, and Bollywood definitely owns the lion’s share. It’s quite common in Bollywood that members of the family step into the shoes of his parents, relatives and siblings. Among all regional language movie industries of India, more filmy families are associated with Bollywood. Though it many branches to direction, music as well as other areas of film making, most of them prefer to become actors or actresses. Who are those siblings who proved their versatility in acting in Bollywood films? Who are those unsuccessful actors who comes from a strong filmy background, let us check.  
 

1. Kapoor brothers – Most successful among all & Great pillars of Bollywood

It can be said that before ‘Khan era’ started in the late 1980s, Bollywood was fully dominated by actors belonging to Kapoor family. Started with 1940s, Kapoor family showed their versatility in acting and filmmaking, though not known for music genre. 1950s to 1970s belong to Kapoor brothers and 1960s was the glorious era of Kapoor family. 

All the three brothers – Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor born to Prithviraj Kapoor were successful in their own genres of movies. While Raj Kapoor got associated with social dramas, Shammi Kapoor achieved a ‘Romantic Prince’ image with early 1960s. Shashi Kapoor too started his career as a chocolate boy and later moved to action films in the 1970s, in association with Amitabh Bachchan. No doubt – they are the most successful brother actors of Bollywood.
 

2. Trilok Kapoor – Less known actor brother of Prithviraj Kapoor

Not many know that Prithviraj Kapoor’s younger brother too has acted in a few Bollywood films in the 1930s – 1950s. He mostly appeared in mythological films and has been paired with Nirupama Roy for 18 films in the 1940s and early 1950s. The successful jodi usually played Siva and Parvati onscreen for many years and people used to fall on their feet and pray for their blessings.
 

3. Randhir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor – sons of Showman Raj Kapoor

Rajiv Kapoor was less successful comparing his elder brothers. Among the three sons of Raj Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor was most successful. Since his debut film as an adult actor in Bobby, he retained a romantic image in the industry and had a huge fan following crowd. Kal Aaj Aur Kal – released in 1971 included three generation of actors of Kapoor family. Though Randhir Kapoor achieved moderate success as an actor, he also tried his luck in film direction.
 
Rajiv Kapoor was successfully launched by his father in Ram Tere Ganga Maili, but he couldn’t sustain in the industry after a series of flops. Among the fourth generation of actors of Kapoor family, Raj Kapoor branch is most successful.
 

4. Karishma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor – The most successful sibling actors of present generation 

If Karishma Kapoor remained at the top in the era of 1990s, Kareena has a lengthy career comparing her elder sister. Kareena started her film career in year 2000, and still remains in the top slot list of actresses. Both the sisters have given numerous hit films to Bollywood industry and many popular chartbuster songs have been featured on them. They also got opportunity to star with almost all leading heroes of Bollywood since late 1980s. Both own an amazing career history with top Khans of Bollywood. They truly inherited the acting talents of their grandfather Raj Kapoor, and are definitely more successful than their parents – Randhir Kapoor and Babita. 

5. Shashi Kapoor’s children moved towards theatre

 
Shashi along with his wife Jennifer Kendal has been actively involved with theater and also revived Prithvi theaters. Their children – Karan Kapoor, Kunal Kapoor and Sanjana Kapoor too followed the same footsteps, and worked in only less number of films.
 

6. Prem Nath and Rajendra Nath – Two extremes 

While Prem Nath showcased his talents as a villain and character artist on Bollywood screen, Rajendra Nath was one of the top comedians of 1960s. They have one more less known brother, Narendra Nath who played comic and supporting roles on Bollywood screen.
 

7. Madan Puri and Amrish Puri – Established villains of Bollywood 

Amrish Puri is best known for the iconic role of Mogambo for the science-fiction movie Mr. India. Towards the end of his career, he portrayed several character roles. His elder brother Madan Puri mostly played negative roles on silver screen in a career spanning to about 5 decades. He was one of the most sought villains of 1960s and 1970s.
 

8. Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol – sons of Dharmendra from his first marriage 

Sons of the highly popular actor Dharmendra, both have established themselves in Bollywood. Sunny Deol is more successful comparing his younger brother Bobby Deol. Sunny is best known for his action films, quite similar to He-man roles done by his father. Their half-sister Isha Deol has also worked in a few Bollywood films, though was not successful. 
 

9. Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor 

Anil Kapoor is a member of second-Kapoor family of Bollywood, and his father Surinder Kapoor is a distant cousin of Prithiviraj Kapoor. Anil Kapoor is a successful hero of Bollywood since 1980s, and stayed in top slot of A-grade actors for a long time. However his younger brother Sanjay Kapoor who debut with Prem in 1995 couldn’t sustain in Bollywood too long. Their elder brother Boney Kapoor is a well-established filmmaker of Bollywood.
 

10. Sonam Kapoor and Harshvardhan Kapoor 

The latest siblings to join the group are Sonam and Harshvardhan, children of Anil Kapoor. Harshvardhan made his Bollywood debut in 2016, and Sonam is already an established actress in the industry with a few hits in her credit.
 

11. Aamir Khan and Faisal Khan 

Faisal Khan is best known for playing Shankar Shane, Aamir Khan’s friend in 1999 film Mela, which flopped at box office. After playing childhood role of Shashi Kapoor in Pyar Ka Mausam directed by his uncle Nasir Hussain, he played a couple of brief roles in his brother’s films such as Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar before he played his first lead role in Madhosh. Mela was his second release, and after that he was seen in a few TV serials and films.
 

12. Salman Khan and his brothers 

Born into a family with strong film background similar to Aamir Khan, Salman too stepped into acting. He regularly works with his younger brothers Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan. In fact Sohail Khan has produced and directed many movies starring Salman, Arbaaz or both. Salman shared screen space with Arbaaz Khan for Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya and Hello Brother directed by Sohail Khan. Dabangg and its sequel are the top movies where Salman Khan and Arbaaz Khan worked together. Salman Khan shared screen space with Sohail Khan for Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? 
 

13. Highly talented Supriya Pathak and Ratna Pathak 

These talented sisters are known for their contributions to offbeat films and theatre. They are active in the entertainment industry since 1980s. Their mother Dina Pathak was a veteran actress known for her contributions to theater and she has portrayed numerous mother type of roles on Bollywood screen. 
 

14. Imaad Shah and Vivaan Shah – Promising youngsters 

These siblings are promising young actors to Bollywood at present. Born to Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak, acting is in their blood and many of their family members are closely associated with theater and cinema. Vivaan Shah is known for his appearance in 7 Khoon Maaf and Happy New Year. Imaad Shah is also known as a musician. 
 

15. Feroz Khan and Sanjay Khan known for action movies 

Brothers were quite active in Bollywood film industry since 1960s, and they were mostly associated with action films. Feroz showcased his talent as an actor, producer and director, while Sanjay Khan got associated with television in the 1980s. Brothers shared screen space for the movies – Upaasna, Mela and Nagin. 
 

16. Nutan and Tanuja – The two extremes 

Gifted and talented actresses of 1960s, both established themselves in their own means. While the elder sister Nutan is known for tear jerking and serious roles, her younger sister is just opposite. Tanuja mostly played naughty and childish roles on Bollywood screen. Their mother Shobhna Samarth was a leading actress of yesterdays and their father Kumarsen Samarth was a filmmaker. 
 

17. Kajol and Tanishaa Mukerji belong to the fourth generation of actors 

Kajol is one of the most adorable actors of Bollywood cinema who owns many traits of her mother Tanuja. Kajol is the lead heroine of all major hits of Shah Rukh Khan. But her younger sister Tanishaa who started her career with Sssshhh... couldn’t sustain in Bollywood too long. She came to limelight after she became an inmate of the controversial show, Bigg Boss. 
 

18. Farah and Tabu 

Farah has been a popular heroine of 1980s. Tabu marked her Bollywood debut in 1995 and regarded as one of the most talented actresses since then. More than big box office figures, her movies met with critical acclaim and she is a winner of National Film Award for Best Actress twice and 4 Filmfare awards – Critics’ choice. 
 

19. Ganguly brothers who showcased their talents in more than one field 

Ashok Kumar, Kishore Kumar and Anoop Kumar together worked in the comedy film, Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi. Ashok Kumar started off his career in lead roles and later moved towards character roles. He has played a wide range of roles from positive to grey shaded ones. Kishore Kumar is widely regarded as one of the most talented cine artists of Hindi cinema. Though he gained most number of fans through his melodious voice, he has also proved his versatility as a music composer, comic actor and film director. Anoop Kumar was less successful among Ganguly brothers. 
 

20. Dev Anand and Vijay Anand – members of Anand-Sahni family 

One of the most versatile cine personalities of Bollywood, Dev Anand established himself as ‘Evergreen hero of Bollywood’. He also directed many movies and introduced many heroines to this magical world. Vijay Anand too, though not as successful as his brothers – Chetan Anand and Dev Anand, is best known for his work in Kora Kaagaz and Doordarshan detective series – Tehkikaat. 
 

21. Mehmood Ali and his siblings 

Ace comedian Mehmood was one of the celebrated figures of 1960s and 1970s. His siblings – Anwar Ali and Minoo Mumtaz too have played a few character and comic roles on Bollywood screen. Minoo played dancer roles in many of her films, and Anwar Ali who played several comic roles later turned a film producer. 
 

22. Ajitabh Bachchan – Less known brother of Amitabh Bachchan 

Amitabh Bachchan, fondly called Big B is the most celebrated star of Bollywood cinema. His younger brother Ajitabh Bachchan has appeared in a few films and also turned a producer, though he was not successful in this field. 
 

23. Dilip Kumar and his less known brother Nasir Khan 

Tragedy king of Bollywood – Dilip Kumar is one of the most popular Bollywood heroes. But his younger brother, who was later married to Bollywood actress Begum Para, appeared in a few Bollywood films in the pre-independent era before he shifted to Pakistan in 1947. He shifted back to India in the 1950s following his unsuccessful career in Pakistan. However he remained unsuccessful. He is best known for sharing screen space with his brother for the movie – Ganga Jamuna. 
 

24. Akshay Khanna and Rahul Khanna 

Sons of the popular actor Vinod Khanna, Akshay is more successful comparing his younger brother Rahul. Akshay has showcased his talent as a romantic hero as well as villain, while Rahul Khanna is best known for his work in 1947 Earth. Rahul is also associated with television shows. 
 

25. Aditya Roy Kapur and Kunaal Roy Kapur 

Youth sensation Aditya Roy Kapur is best known for the movie – Aashiqui 2 and is one of the most sought young actors of Bollywood at present. His elder brother Kunaal Roy Kapur is a film director, and has also appeared in a few movies such as Delhi Belly and Nautanki Saala. 
 

26. Chandrachur Singh and Abhimanyu Singh 

Chandrachur Singh marked his film debut through Tere Mere Sapne in 1996, and is best known for his work in Maachis, Dil Kya Kare, Daag, Kya Kehna and Josh. Abhimanyu Singh is best known for his work in Rakta Charitra, and has also appeared in a few television shows. 
 

27. Shilpa Shetty and Shamita Shetty known for their dance moves 

Both the siblings are known for their glamorous avatars and dancing skills. However Shamita couldn’t sustain in Bollywood too long. Shilpa Shetty became an internationally known celebrity after the controversial show, Big Brother. Though she has retired from films years ago, she is quite active with reality shows on television. The sisters together worked for the movie Fareb. 
 

28. Pooja Bhatt and Alia Bhatt – Two generation actors  

Alia Bhatt is the half-sister of Pooja Bhatt. Their father Mahesh Bhatt is a versatile filmmaker associated with Bollywood. Pooja Bhatt remained at the top in the early 1990s and Alia is currently one of the most sought actresses of Bollywood. 

29. Arya Babbar, Juhi Babbar and Prateek Babbar – Unsuccessful star kids 

Sons of Bollywood actor Raj Babbar, Arya Babbar was born to famous theatre and film personality Nadira Babbar while Prateek was born to the celebrated and talented actress Smita Patel. Though both the actors have worked in a few Bollywood films, careers of both are yet to start off. Same is the case of Juhi Babbar too, Raj Babbar’s daughter who has worked in a few movies and television shows.  But currently she is active in the field of theatre contributing as an actress and stage director. 
 

30. Ameesha Patel and Ashmit Patel 

Ameesha started her film career with blockbuster hit – Kaho Na Pyar Hai, and also played lead role in Bollywood hits – Gadar: Ek Prem Katha and Humraaz. However her younger brother couldn’t gain much from Bollywood. 
 

31. Shraddha Kapoor and Siddhanth Kapoor – The lovely siblings of Bollywood at present 

Born to the star villain of 1980s – Shakti Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor has already established herself as a promising actress of Bollywood. Her younger brother Siddhanth Kapoor too has appeared in a few movies, the most notable one being Ungly. Earlier he worked as an assistant director. 
 

32. Padmini Kolhapure and Tejaswini Kolhapure with a big age gap 

Nieces of celebrated singers Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle, Padmini was quite active in Bollywood in the 1980s while her younger sister Tejaswini started her acting career with television shows before moving to big screen. The sisters have a good age gap also. Their elder sister is married to Bollywood villain Shakti Kapoor. 
 

33. Reddy sisters – Sameera, Sushama and Meghna 

Among the sisters, Sameera Reddy is most successful who also owns a successful career down south. Sushama Reddy and Meghna Reddy are established models and VJs, and Sushama has appeared in a few Bollywood most notable being Chup Chupke.
 

34. Bengali Divas – Raima Sen and Riya Sen 

Daughters of famous Bengali actress Moon Moon Sen and granddaughters of the celebrated star Suchitra Sen, the siblings are best known for their works in Bengali cinema. Yet they have occasionally worked in Bollywood films, and appeared in many popular Hindi music videos also.
 

35. Shruti Haasan and Akshara Hassan – Daughters of National award winners 

Both their parents are highly acclaimed film personalities – Kamal Hassan and Sarika, who won National award for best actor/actress. Known for their work down south, they occasionally work for Bollywood also. Akshara made her Bollywood debut through Shamitabh in 2015. Kamal Hassan’s elder brother Charuhasan too is a National award winning south Indian film actor.
 

36. Mallika Arora and Amrita Arora known for glamorous avatars 

Mallika Arora is one of the celebrated item dancers associated with Bollywood cinema. She is also a celebrity judge of several reality shows. However her younger sister Amrita showed face in a few Bollywood films, though not successful. 
 

37. Dimple Kapadia and Simple Kapadia 

Dimple Kapadia who married the first superstar of Bollywood has been one of the celebrated stars of 1980s. Her younger sister Simple, also known as a costume designer has also worked in a few films. But she was not successful as an actress like her elder sister.
 

38. Twinkle Khanna and Rinke Khanna 

Daughter of star couple – Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia, Twinkle was quite active in the film scene in the second half of 1990s. However she got settled with her family life after her marriage with Akshay Kumar. Her younger sister Rinke Khanna too appeared in a few movies in lead role, though was not successful.
 

39. Shubha Khote and Viju Khote 

The siblings are quite popular for their comic roles on television as well as Bollywood films. They have also played numerous character roles. Their aunt Durga Khote was a famous actress of Bollywood.
 

40. Raju Kher – Brother of Anupam Kher 

Anupam Kher is a versatile actor of Bollywood, and his younger brother Raju Kher too has played a few character and villain roles on Bollywood screen. Raju appeared in only less number of movies. He is also associated with television as an actor and director.
 

41. Uzra Butt – sister of legendary grandmother on Bollywood screen Zohra Sehgal 

Zohra Sehgal is an iconic character artist associated with Bollywood. Her younger sister Uzra Butt too was a part of Indian theatre before she moved to Pakistan in 1964. She was the leading lady with Prithvi Theatre in the 1940s and 1950s.
 

42. Sulakshana Pandit and Vijayta Pandit 

They are the sisters of celebrated music directors – Jatin Lalit, and the sisters are also known as singers. Vijayta Pandit is best known for her debut film, Love Story which was a blockbuster hit. She was married to famous music composer Aadesh Shrivastava.
 

43. Huma Qureshi and Saqib Saleem 

Huma Qureshi is best known for her work in Bollywood cinema, and she has most recently debut in Malayalam cinema too. Her brother Saqib Saleem is known as a producer and actor.
 

44. Sonakshi Sinha and Luv Sinha – Kids of Shatrughan Sinha  

Sonakshi who started her career opposite Salman Khan in Debangg is currently a popular actress of Bollywood. Her elder brother Luv Sinha marked his Bollywood debut through Sadiyaan in 2010 and is yet to find a mark in the industry.
 

45. Shilpa Shirodkar and Namrata Shirodkar

Shilpa Shirodkar started her Bollywood journey in the late 1980s, and has worked with Bollywood stars like Anil Kapoor and Suniel Shetty. Her younger sister has an outstanding career in modelling. A winner of several pageants, Namrata Shirodkar too has worked in Bollywood before she got married to south Indian superstar Mahesh Babu. She is best known for her role as a beauty pageant winner and Anil Kapoor’s love interest in Pukar, and Bollywood hit – Dil Vil Pyaar Vyar.

46. Nagma and Jyothika who gained popularity in South

Both Nagma and her half-sister Jyothika started their careers in Bollywood films before they moved to South and established themselves as the top actresses of Tamil cinema. Nagma remained successful in a few Bollywood films including her debut film Baagi opposite Salman Khan and Suhaag, Yalgaar etc. In fact she was paired with Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan in their early movies -Baagi and King Uncle respectively. However her younger sister couldn’t make a mark in Bollywood films. Her debut film was Doli Sajake Rakhna opposite Akshaye Khanna in 1998, whose songs became popular though the movie was a flop.

47. Johny Lever and Jimmy Moses

Johny Lever is a well-established comedian of Bollywood since early 1990s. His younger brother played the cameo role of a truck driver in Chennai Express, and concentrates most on his career as a stage performer.
