Dhruva Sarja – Noted Kannada film actor who made an impressive debut through ‘Addhuri’ in 2012

Dhruva Sarja is a noted Kannada film actor best known for his debut movie, ‘Addhuri’ released in 2012. He won SIIMA awards, Suvarna Awards and Udaya Film Award for Best Debutante actor for portraying Arjun on screen. His next two releases – Bahaddur (2014) and Bharjari (2017) earned him nomination at SIIMA for best actor in a lead role. He is a member of Sarja filmy family. He was the nephew of famous south Indian film actor Arjun Sarja, and grandson of Kannada villain of yesterdays, Shakti Prasad. He is the younger brother of deceased actor Chiranjeevi Sarja, who was married to actress Meghana Raj.

Dhruva Sarja was born into filmy family in Bangalore, Karnataka in 1988. Vijay Kumar and Ammanni are his parents. Actor Shakti Prasad was his maternal grandfather. Like his elder brother, he too enrolled for acting classes before he started attending film auditions. He attended auditions for A. P. Arjun’s new movie without revealing his identity, and got selected for the lead role. His debut film, ‘Addhuri’ released in 2012 was a major success and helped him to gain a foot in the industry as a budding star. Radhika Pandit played the female lead. The movie had all elements to attract the youth – romance and action.

For the next two releases, he bagged nomination at SIIMA in best actor category. The movies – Bahaddur and Bharjari also ran at theaters. Yet the actor remained only choosy with his roles. With only three releases in last 9 years, his fourth movie Pogaru directed by Nanda Kishore is gearing up for a release. He got engaged to his childhood friend Prerana in December 2018, a few months after his brother’s marriage to Meghana Raj. His brother Chiranjeevi Sarja died of heart attack in June 2020 at the peak of his career, when he was only 39.

1. Like his elder brother, Dhruva’s acting talents too were encouraged by uncle Arjun since young. It was Arjun who suggested him to join acting classes.

2. His elder brother was launched by his uncle Arjun, while Dhruva hid his identity, and grabbed his first film role through an audition.

3. He is often called, Sandalwood Action Prince, for taking action roles most.

4. His debut film, ‘Addhuri’ – a romantic drama completed 175 days in 10 theatres and was the highest grosser of 2012. He turned a youth sensation after that.

5. Tarun Chandra’s guest role in ‘Addhuri’ was kept under wraps till the movie release, and was a surprise pack to audience.

6. The actor rejected more than 50 scripts before signing his second project.
