Best Food Items for Kids to Grow Taller

Height is only a small criterion, not serious at all. It gives a good appeal to physical appearance if you are into modelling or acting field, nothing else. Success of a person is directly proportional to hard work and talent, and nothing else. Yet some kids may feel inferiority complex and lack of confidence if he/she is short. Genetic factors play an important role in the average height of a person. Yet proper nutrition and certain food items can directly influence a child’s growth as well. Here I introduce a few such food items.

Protein – Protein is the most important factor which influences a person’s height a lot. Proteins help in the building of cells and tissues, especially in the growing phase of a kid. So if a kid of deficient of proteins during his growing stage, he may deteriorate in growth. Protein is found rich in eggs, chicken, soya, fish, pulses, grains, oats etc.

Minerals – Some minerals can help in the growth of kids, and can help him to achieve height. A kid and teenager should eat food which contains iron, magnesium, phosphorous, fluoride, iodine and manganese. Calcium is yet another vital factor. Minerals are found in vegetables, fruits, grains, milk products, fish and chicken.

Vitamins – For the growth and health of bones, Vitamin-D is very much needed. It helps to absorb calcium to body. Deficiency of Vitamin-D may adversely affect the growth and strength of bones as well as the height of the person. Vitamins such as A, B1, B2, C and F, riboflavin, ascorbic acid etc are found abundant in vegetables and fruits. Carrot, spinach and other leafy vegetables, almonds, milk, fish and oils extracted from seeds like sunflower oil and pumpkin can provide you these factors.

Carbohydrates – Carbohydrates give energy to all our body activities. Assure that your kid’s diet includes good carbohydrates only. Wheat and grains can help you here. Carbohydrate content in pizza and burger can harm him.

Apart from carbohydrates, a kid’s meal should contain proteins, vitamins, minerals, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. It’s the duty of a parent to make him aware of good and healthy diet, and prompt him to choose a complete diet. When protein rich food is supplied to the body, he gets good health, damaged cells are repaired easily and it expands thin muscles also.

A few more points to note

1. Along with healthy food, sound sleep is also essential. Kids should sleep 10-12 hours a day.

2. At frequent intervals consult a doctor and check his height-weight proportion. It helps you assure if your kid’s growth is in proportion with his age. Deteriorating growth can be detected at early stage, and suitable measures can be taken.

3. Regular exercise strengthens bones and muscles, and makes your kid healthy. It also helps him to maintain proper weight.
