Bose Venkat – Policeman of Tamil silver screen

Bose Venkat is an Indian actor associated with Tamil entertainment industry. He is equally successful in Tamil cinema and television, and best known for playing character roles. He is also a seasoned dubbing artist. He is married to noted character artist Sonia, known for her roles as a child artist in the 1980s. Bose started his career in television after a brief unsuccessful innings in films, and the Tv show Metti Oli gave him the first major break and subsequently roles in Tamil cinema.

Bose Venkat was born in Chennai in 1975. To pursue his dreams to become an actor, he started his attempts at the age of 17. Though he attempted numerous auditions, he could get only uncredited bit roles which broke his heart. Subsequently he worked as an auto driver to earn a living. Yet he didn’t give up his dreams to become an actor and started giving auditions for TV shows. He got a supporting role in ‘Metti Oli’ which earned him recognition. Impressed by this role, Bharathiraja offered him a role in Eera Nilam (2003) which was a turning point of his life.

After that he continued working in both films and TV shows, and also accepted a few Malayalam and Kannada film roles. Sivaji, Ko, Thalainagaram, Kavan, Singham, and Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru are some of his major works in Tamil films. Mostly played an associate of a police officer, he has also done negative roles on screen. He played parallel lead role in Kalaignarin Kannamma scripted by M. Karunanidhi.

He met his future wife Sonia in the sets of TV serial, ‘Uravakal Oru Thudarkathai’, where he played a guest role. In those days she was a senior artist in films and television, while Bose was a newcomer. Sonia used to do three serials at that time. Venkat used to call her Madam, and showed respect. Slowly a friendship developed between the two, and culminated into marriage in 2004. The couple is blessed with two kids.

1. He was selected from more than thousand aspirants for the role of ‘Metti Oli’, which changed his life forever.

2. He played Bose, brother of Chidambaram’s wife in the show, ‘Metti Oli’, and ‘Bose’ tag got permanently added to his name.

3. He has worked as a police officer in more than 40 films, and Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru in cop role in Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru is one of his major works.

4. He worked as a cop in Singham franchisee of Suriya and as policeman Sathya in Suriya’s younger brother’s film, Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru.

5. He dubbed for Hindi actor Atul Kulkarni for Tamil movie – Veeram in 2014 marking his debut. Later he worked as a dubbing artist for Achyuth Kumar in Poriyaalan, Ashish Vidyarthi in Yennai Arindhaal etc.               

6. He mostly played negative roles on Malayalam screen.
