Alka Amin – Supporting actress of Hindi big and small screen

Alka Amin is an Indian film, television and theatre actress, who predominantly works in Hindi entertainment industry. She plays elderly supporting roles on television screen as well as Bollywood. She played John Abraham’s mother in Romeo Akbar Walter (2016). She came into prominence in Bollywood most recently only, and is a late entry to Bollywood as screen mother. She was busy with television till then. She has been a part of hit Bollywood films of recent times such as Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Luka Chuppi, Kedarnath, Badhaai Ho, Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana etc. She has also appeared in a web series in 2016 – Sex Chat with Pappu and Papa, playing the role of grandmother, and also 2019 series, Chacha Vidhayak Hain Humare.

Alka Main hails from Mumbai. After graduating from the prestigious National School of Drama, she started her career as a stage actress. Dil Dariya during 1988-1989 was her first small screen appearance. However after this series, she joined television industry only in 2008. Since then she is regular with TV shows. She has been a part of TV shows such as 12/24 Karol Bagh, Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh, Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil, Yeh Pyaar Nahi Toh Kya Hai, Kalash, Parichay, Kya Huaa Tera Vaada, Kasautii Zindagii Kay etc. In 2003 she appeared in a less-known movie, Swaraj: The Little Republic. Dum Laga Ke Haisha marked her re-entry to Bollywood, playing Ayushmann Khurrana’s mother. Since then she is regular in Bollywood playing mother roles.

Alka Amin – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. In 2008, Alka played the titular lead role of the television series, Anaro for Doordarshan, which marked her re-entry to Bollywood.

2. Balika Vadhu and Crime Patrol are her favourite TV shows, though she is not a part of both.

3. As an actress, Karol Baugh gave her the first big break.
