Akiv Ali – Bollywood director and editor of ‘De De Pyaar De’ fame
Akiv Ali is a Bollywood editor turned director, whose debut film as a director De De Pyaar De released in 2019 was a commercial hit. With more than 15 years of experience in film industry as a film editor since 2003, Murder, Kites, Bang Bang, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Life In A Metro, Zeher, Paap, Barfi, Brothers, Pyaar Ka Punchnama and its sequel, Agneepath, Kalyug, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Kaabil, The Dirty Picture, I Hate Love Stories and Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai are some of his major works. He is known for his association with Hrithik Roshan and Luv Ranjan movies in the recent times.
Akiv Ali was born in Delhi in 1981. He started his Bollywood career at a comparatively young age of 22, when he edited the movie, Kash Aap Hamare Hote (2003). But the movie was a flop, followed by Saaya. The movie marked his association with Mahesh Bhatt camp, and after that he edited a series of Bhatt movies such as Footpath, Inteha, Paap, Tumsa Nahin Dekha: A Love Story, Rog, Gangster, Zeher etc mostly starring Emraan Hashmi. He tasted success for the first time editing 2004 erotic thriller, Murder. Akiv has appeared in a brief role in 2005 Bhatt movie – Rog.
He rose to prominence after leaving Bhatt camp. Yet his association with the production company earned him initial recognition and a few hit films. After that he edited many movies starring Hrithik Roshan. After joining hands with filmmaker Luv Ranjan his career touched new heights, delivering hits one after another.
Akiv Ali – Some interesting and less-known facts
1. Akiv Ali edited all the films scripted and directed by Luv Ranjan till 2019 – Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Sonu ke Titu Ki Sweety, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 and Akaash Vani, and all of them fared well at box office.
2. In 2019 Luv Ranjan co-scripted and co-produced Akiv’s debut film as a director – De De Pyaar De. Despite getting mixed reviews the film fared well at box office.
3. Akiv Ali’s association with Hrithik Roshan began with Kites, and later he edited Hrithik’s hit movies such as Agneepath, Kabil and Bang Bang.
4. After his directorial debut, he wanted to continue with his film editing works as usual. In fact he took a small break from editing while doing De De Pyaar De.
5. He edited ‘De De Pyaar De’ along with handling film direction.
6. His bond with Luv Ranjan is almost 10 years old. They are good friends.
