Rasna Pavithran – Malayalam film actress best known for sister roles

Rasna Pavithran is a character artist associated with Malayalam films, best known for playing younger sister roles on screen. She played Prithviraj’s younger sister in Oozham and Dulquer Salman’s younger sister in Jomonte Suvisheshangal. Her role as Balamani Amma in Kamal’s Aami was also well received.

She is a great devotee of Mookambika Devi

Rasna Pavithran hails from Thottada, Kannur district. Her father worked in a foreign country and she has two elder sisters. She was naughty, and different from her sisters who already settled with married lives after studies. She is a great devotee of Mookambika Devi and dreamt to become an artist. But family situations were not encouraging to pursue a career in this field. Cinema was only a distant dream then. She was not at all interested in studies, and completed her studies only as per her parents’ wish. She kept sending her photos for auditions, with the dream to become an actress.

She got her first break to films through an audition

Initially her acting dreams were not entertained by her father. But she always had a character to resist her parents, and she began strike at home. If she quarrels with her father, she used to go to a trip to Mookambika, and stay at temple priest Manjunatha Adiga’s home. She has stayed for months in his residence. When her father realized that her intentions were strong, he gave a ‘yes’ nod.

Maunam’ gave her first break to films. She got the film through an audition. She played the lead role in the film, a serious character. The movie went unnoticed, and she had to wait long to receive more film offers. It pushed her to depression. Following health issues, her father returned from abroad, adding to her agonies. She also bagged a Tamil project, but it got shelved. Yet she was not willing to give up and continued sending photos for ads and auditions.

‘Oozham’ gave her the first major break in film industry

When she came to know that Jeetu Joseph is in search of a girl to do sister role in his flick, Oozham, she sent a selfie without makeup. When she came to know that she is playing Prithviraj’s sister in the movie, she got thrilled. It was followed by mother role in Aami, which she did convincingly. She was given grey hair for the role. Her role as Dulquer Salman’s younger sister in Jomonte Suvisheshangal also got noticed. She doesn’t want to type cast in sister roles, and hence has decided not to accept sister roles further.

She met her future husband Dalin through Facebook

She met Dalin Sukumaran through Facebook, which later converted to love and they got married after 5 years. It happened soon after her debut flick got released, and she started sharing photos in fb. He works as an aircraft cabin maintenance engineer at Bangalore, and is a native of Aluva. Their marriage was fixed one year prior to marriage, yet kept their relationship under wraps. They got married in November 2019.

After her debut film, when she didn’t get offers as expected, she was deeply distressed, and even thought of deleting social media accounts. At that time, Dalin used to send positive thoughts, which inspired her a lot, and made her mood light.

Rasna Pavithran – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. She is a great devotee of Mookambika, and during bad times, she calls Guruvayurappa first. Her wedding ceremony was conducted at Guruvayur temple.

2. 10 years back she visited Mookambika temple, along with her family. To her surprise, the temple priest Manjunatha Adiga called her separately, and asked her to attend a pooja at temple in the next day early morning. It surprised everyone present there. She attended the pooja next day. A deep bond with the family started that day. For the same reason, whenever she quarrels with her family, if she feels depressed, she reaches and stays at priest’s home.

3. Her first shot for Oozham was a ‘dead scene’, where she along with two characters was filmed as dead. She was given less makeup against her expectations, as it was a dead scene.  

4. She was given grey hair makeup for her role as Balamani Amma in Aami. When she was walking through a corridor with makeup, director Kamal saw her and asked others, ‘Who is this Amma?’ Even the director couldn’t recognize her, and he became very happy.

5. She lost her father before the shooting of Oozham started. Thus he couldn’t watch his daughter’s success in movies.
