Annapurna Mishra – First Mayor of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation since 2012

Annapurna Mishra is a social worker and politician affiliated to Bharatiya Janata Party. She currently serves as First Mayor of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation since 2012. After the municipal elections held in 2012, when three new local bodies were created, she became one of the three elected Mayors and represents Sonia Vihar. Her son Kapil Mishra is a controversial leader and young politician affiliated to BJP and he serves as a cabinet minister in central government since 2019.

Annapurna Mishra hails from Delhi, and belongs to a family of government employees. She is married to Rameshwar Mishra “Pankaj”. She has three daughters and one son. She holds Ph. D in Hindi literature from Meerut. She joined active politics during her 20s. She is a second-term elected member from Sonia Vihar Municipal Corporation. As a Mayor, she conducted camps for the recovery of property tax. Thus East Delhi Municipal Corporation became the first one to succeed in this attempt.

1. She is the First Mayor of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation.

2. Her son Kapil Mishra received wrath from public for his controversial speech against Anti-CAA protests in Delhi in February 2020. Clashes between supporters and protestors soon followed, resulting in violence and many deaths.

3. As a social activist her ‘tree plantation drive’ is well-known. Through this campaign she planted 1 lakh saplings.
