Aswathi Menon – Malayalam film actress of ‘Sathyam Sivam Sundaram’ fame

Aswathi Menon is a seasoned actress of Malayalam cinema. She played a few lead and supporting roles in the early 2000s before she took hiatus and has returned to silver screen in 2017. She is still known for her debut flick, Sathyam Sivam Sundaram (2000), where she was casted in a lead role opposite Kunchakko Boban. She also played lead role in Savithriyude Aranjanam, and supporting roles in Onnaman and Tamil version of Thenkasi Pattanam, all released in 2002 before she took a break from acting. In the recent times, she played Rajisha Vijayan’s strict and lovable mother in 2019 romantic hit June, and her role was well appreciated.

Aswathi Menon, a native of Ernakulam spent her younger days in Dubai where she completed her schooling. Later she moved to her hometown to continue her higher studies. In 2000, she got her first break to films through Sathyam Sivam Sundaram. Though her role as a long-lost princess and its songs got noticed, the film flopped at box office. In year 2002, three of her films got released. With limited success in films, she quit acting and settled with family life in Dubai. She returned to silver screen after a hiatus of 15 years, and some of her releases are Role Models, June, Laughing Apartment Near Girinagar etc, and a couple of short films – The Lover and Men at My Door. She played Lucy, a Goan woman in her comeback film, Role Models.

1. The popular romantic song of Hariharan, ‘Walking In The Moonlight’ was filmed on Aswathi and Kunchakko Boban.

2. Her first break to Malayalam and Tamil films were given by Rafi Mecartin duo through Sathyam Sivam Sundaram and Thenkasi Pattanam respectively.

3. She reprised the role of Kavya Madhavan in the Tamil version of Thenkasi Pattanam, and the film was a hit.

4. When she got only repetitive roles of less significance, she waited for a while to complete PG and then moved to Dubai where she took a corporate job.

5. After she took break from acting post marriage, she worked as a marketing manager in a real estate firm in Dubai.

6. Though she was away from films after marriage, she was involved with theatre in Dubai, before she returned to films in 2017. She has been adjusted as the best actress for a theatre festival in Dubai.

7. She holds a diploma from ‘New York Film Academy’ in Abu Dhabi for Film Acting.

8. She worked as a dubbing artist for 2018 Malayalam film, Joseph. She has also hosted events.

9. She has been settled in Dubai for many years, except a few years in the 1990s and early 2000s, when she was studying and appearing in films.
