Ajayan Bala – The author of award winning book ‘Ulaka cinima varalaru : maunayukam 1894-1929’

Ajayan Bala is a Tamil writer, who also writes film scripts and dialogues since 2013. He has directed one segment – Misai of 2018 anthology film, 6 Athiyayam, marking his directorial debut. As a writer he is best known for his short story collections such as Moondravathu Arai Nanbanin Kathal Kathai, Muthukkal Pathu etc. He writes both fiction and non-fiction.

Ajayan Bala hails from Thirukalukundram. This author has written a dozen of autobiographies apart from several short stories and one novel. Chennaiyil Oru Naal marked his debut as a screenwriter. Manithan, Diya, Lakshmi, Vana Yuddham, Manithan, Nethraa etc are other film scripts. His works have been serialized in many Tamil magazines, including a history series in Ananda Vikatan. He also works as an assistant director under different directors in the film industry.

Ajayan Bala – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. His book on cinema, Ulaka cinima varalaru : maunayukam 1894-1929 won the award for the best book in the fine arts section by Tamil Nadu Government in 2007.

2. He adapted two Hollywood scripts, one Malayalam script (Traffic) and one Bollywood script (Jolly LLB) apart from original works. Those films were Chennaiyil Oru Naal and Manithan respectively.

3. His single novel titled Pakalmeenkal was serialized in the famous Kalki magazine.
