Rahul Vaidya – Popular singer of ‘Indian Idol – Season 1’ fame

Rahul Vaidya is well-known pop, independent and playback singer who came to limelight for the first time after he participated in India’s first ever singing reality show, ‘Indian Idol – Season 1’ in 2004. One of the top contenders for the title, he finished at position three. Later he won the title of Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar on Star Plus, and was also a team member of Music Ka Maha Muqqabla for the same TV channel. Despite remaining in limelight for a long time, like his friends at Indian Idol like Abhijeet Sawant and Amit Sana, he got only limited success in playback singing. However he released a few albums and singles, which were well received. He is quite active with his music shows. ‘Tera Intezar’ remains his most popular song up-to-date.

Rahul Vaidya was born in Nagpur and brought up in Mumbai. His father worked as an engineer in Maharashtra State Electricity Board. A trained classical singer, Rahul started appearing in music competitions at a very young age. He was only a Second Year Junior College student in Mithibai College and in his late teens when he participated in Indian Idol – Season 1. Within a few weeks, he became one of the top voices among the contestants and also had a huge fan following crowd. Many believed that he would walk away with the trophy. However he lost to Abhijeet Sawant and Amit Sana in the penultimate round.

Despite the unexpected setback he received in Indian Idol – Season 1, he continued with his independent career as a singer, and his debut album Tera Intezar released 8 months later was a huge hit. ‘Do Chaar Din‘ is one of his popular songs in the recent past and also Keh Do Na in 2018. Bollywood film Shaadi No. 1 marked his singing debut. Later he sang for movies such as Jigyaasa, Bhag Johnny, All Is Well, Hot Money, Kisse Pyaar Karoon and Krazzy 4 apart from TV shows like “Ek Ladki Anjaani Si“. However he couldn’t succeed as a playback singer. “Be Intehaan“(Unplugged Version) from Race 2 is among his best film songs.

1. Rahul Vaidya is known for his good looks and silky voice resembling Sonu Nigam, who was one of the celebrity judges of Indian Idol – Season 1 in which Rahul participated.

2. He was judges’ favourite during Indian Idol – Season 1, and he was in tears when got eliminated in the penultimate round.

3. South Indian actress and model Vedika was first seen in Rahul’s Tera Intezar music video. She also appeared in a few more music videos before marking her career debut down South.

4. Rahul has been successfully hosting TV shows and performing live at various events across the globe, apart from releasing albums and singles.

5. He anchored the TV show “Jhoom India” on Sahara, and also dance reality show, Aaja Mahi Ve aside Vinit Singh belonging to the same platform of reality show contestants.

6. He has done one Nepali album titled Aafno Mann.

7. He defeated Indian Idol Abhijeet Sawant in the final round of Jeeta Wohi Superstar to claim the title in 2009.

8. He is a contestant of Bigg Boss 14 in 2020.
