Aishwarya’s career best songs are composed by A. R. Rahman and Ismail Darbar

Aishwarya Rai, the real diva of Bollywood is currently in limelight for her extra glamorous avatar and amazing screen chemistry with Ranbir Kapoor in the most recent release – E Dil Hai Mushkil. She is associated with silver screen since 1997, and she is to complete 20 years in 2017. Aishwarya has done only lesser number of movies comparing her contemporaries and given hits much lesser. But she is everyone’s hot favorite as she is a stunning beauty onscreen. This screen goddess looks awesome in song sequences, and have you ever thought which music composers gave her the finest songs in the film career? Songs have played a significant role in the success of her major movies.

Konchum Mainaakkale Song from Tamil film – Kandukondein Kandukondein released in the year 2000

Yes you guessed it right – A. R. Rahman and Ismail Darbar. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas are her landmark films in terms of performances and music of both these Sanjay Leela Bhansali were composed by Ismail Darbar. Aishwarya looks extremely gorgeous in traditional dress and ornaments in both these flicks. Music of rest of her major career hits – Taal, Jodha Akbar and Guru are composed by A. R. Rahman. Rahman has also composed music for some of her hit Tamil films like Jeans, Kandukondein Kandukondein and Enthiran (Robert). Dhoom-2, Josh, Mohabbatein, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, Sarkar Raj and Khakee are few more hit films of Aishwarya, where music was composed by a third composer. Among these listed movies, only Dhoom-2 is a major success. She did only a cameo role of about 15 minutes in her recent hit – Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

Rahman composed the music of Aishwarya’s all works in Tamil since her debut – Iruvar

Kanamoochi song from Kandukondein Kandukondein featuring Aishwarya and Tabu as sisters

A south Indian, Aishwarya started off her career with acclaimed director Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film Iruvar in 1997. Its highly appreciated music score was done by A. R. Rahman. Quite co-incidence, Aishwarya played female lead in five Tamil movies including one bilingual, and Rahman scored music for all these films. Music was also well-received. Most of the movies were successful at box office too.

Aishwarya was featured in “Hello Mister Edirkatchi”, “Aayirathil Naan Oruvan” and “Kannai Kattikolathey” songs of her debut film Iruvar, and was also seen in “Narumugaye”. Her second Tamil film was Jeans, and it had a dubbed Hindi version with the same film title. Songs of both these versions were instant chartbusters. Ajooba, Kehta Hai Mera Yeh Dil and Haira Haira Hairabba got noticed in Hindi version.

Her third release was Kandukondein Kandukondein in year 2000 before she fully switched to Bollywood films. Aishwarya was seen gorgeous in a traditional avatar in this film, and the songs – Konchum Mainakkale, Yengae Enathu Kavithai, Kanamoochi and the title track featuring Aishwarya became huge chartbusters.

Enthiran was her fourth release and it was released in Hindi version too (Robert). Enthiran is her biggest Tamil hit up-to-date and songs were popular. However its Hindi version songs were not popular comparing her other movies. Raavanan is her fifth and final release, and this bi-lingual Mani Ratnam film was released in Hindi as Raavan. Songs of both the versions were noticed, and the movie performed average at box office.

Aishwarya owns a rare distinction to play female lead opposite 4 megastars out of her five films in Kollywood – Iruvar opposite Mohanlal, Kandukondein Kandukondein opposite Mammootty, Enthiran opposite Rajinikanth and Raavanan opposite Vikram.

Rahman owns maximum chartbuster songs for Aishwarya movies

taal songs

Kahi Aag Lage from Taal – One of the top songs in Rahman-Asha Bhosle combination

Taal – was the first work of Rahman for an Ash film in Bollywood. The music was a huge hit, and played a significant role in film’s success. Songs pictured on Ash such as Ishq Bina, Kahi Aag Lage, Taal Se Taal Mila and Ni Mein Samach Gayi were delight to watch onscreen. After that Rahman worked for Guru and Jodha Akbar, and both these movies were commercially successful. Songs of both these movies were very much appreciated.

Tere Bina and Barso Re Megha were the highlights of Guru while romantic tracks of Jodha Akbar – Jashn-E-Bahaara and In Lamhon Ke Daaman Mein too received good attention from music lovers. Raavan was the fourth and final work. Though songs were not as popular as the rest three works, they definitely got noticed. The film Raavan too remains single flop film of this deadly combination in Bollywood. Behene De was a noticed track of the album.

Ismail Darbar’s equation with Ash is 100% profitable at box office

Though Rahman-Aishwarya Rai combination gave maximum hits belonging to all languages, Ismail Darbar owns a great record of 100% success. Till now Aishwarya has worked in two Sanjay Leela Bhansali movies, and both these works are regarded as her career best. She also received Filmfare best actress trophy for both these works, and music for both these movies were composed by Ismail Darbar.

Title Track – The climax song of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam

Music played a significant role in the success of both these movies, and full spotlight was given to Aishwarya during song picturization to capture her beauty with 100% perfectness in song sequences. Not even a single weak track was present in both these music albums too.

Ismail Darbar gave fresh tunes to the tracks of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam which earned him National award. A series of songs featured Aishwarya Rai in a key role – Title track, Dhol Baaje, Tadap Tadap, Jhoka Hawa Ka, Ankhon Ki, Man Mohini, Nimbooda and Chand Chupka, and the movie established her as a leading actress of Bollywood.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali-Ismail Darbar-Aishwarya Rai trio repeated the success with Devdas three years later. The songs – Silsila Yeh Chahat Ka, Bairi Piya, Hamesha, Dola Re, Woh Chand and Kaahe Chhed featured Aishwarya in a beautiful traditional avatar.

Top 5 Bollywood songs of Aishwarya with both the composers

I think finest of Aishwarya’s songs belong to Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, followed by Taal composed by Ismail and Rahman respectively. Quite coincidence both the films were released in 1999, and played a magnificent role in placing her among A-grade actresses of B’town.

Though it’s not an easy task to list 5 best songs of Ash with each composer, it’s an attempt. Ishq Bina, Kahi Aag Lage, Taal Se Taal Mila, In Lamhon Ke Daaman Mein, and Barso Re Megha could be my choice of Aishwarya songs with A. R. Rahman in Bollywood. Aankhom Ki Gustakiyan, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Dhol Baaje, Bairi Piya and Silsila Yeh Chahat Ka should be included in her top 5 songs composed by Ismail Darbar though Tadap Tadap and Nimbooda also need mention. Nimbooda is a traditional Rajasthani folk song reused for the movie.

Barso Re Megha song from Guru composed by Rahman

Aishwarya is now a seasoned actor in Bollywood, and it has been more than 5-6 years since music fans got opportunity to hear a song in both these combinations. She has now returned to acting and hope we can hear some nice music again.
