Olan in Travancore Style


Olan is an integral side dish of Kerala sadya. It’s inevitable for regions belonging to Thrissur district, and in south Kerala regions, particularly Thiruvananthapuram district, it’s served along with rice after payasam is served. It is served as a side dish of pine apple pulissery in Thiruvananthapuram areas. This style of olan is prepared and served in Thiruvananthapuram. 

 

 Ingredients for Olan:

 
1. Baji banana (Thadiyan Kaa) finely chopped – 2 cup
    Pumpkin finely chopped – ½ cup
    Long beans (Achinga) – 2
    Green chillies – 1
    Red beans (Vanpayar) soaked – 2 small spoons
2. Salt and water – As required
3. Coconut milk – ¼ cup
4. Curry leaves – 1 stalk
    Coconut oil – 1 small spoon
 

How to prepare Olan?

 
1. Cook ingredients no: 1 adding enough quantity of water in a pressure cooker.
2. Once done open the lid and check if extra water is present. If so heat in flame till full water content is absorbed and smash the contents well.  
3. Add coconut milk to it and mix well and put the flame off.
4. Add curry leaves and coconut oil.
