Oats Upma

Ingredients for Oats Upma:

1. Oats – 1 cup

2. Oil – 2 big spoons

    Butter – 2 big spoons

3. Cloves – 2

    Cinnamon – 1 small piece

    Bay leaf (Vayana Ila) – 1

4. Mustard – ¼ small spoon

    Cashews – A little

    Curry leaves – A little

5. Onion – 1, chopped fine

    Green chillies – 2, chopped fine

    Ginger – 1 small spoon, chopped fine

6. Carrot – 1, cut into small square pieces

    Green peas – A handful

7. Turmeric powder – ½ small spoon

    Salt – For taste

8. Water – 1 cup

9. Sprouted green peas – ½ cup

10. Coriander leaves chopped – To decorate

How to prepare Oats Upma?

1. Dry fry oats and allow to cool.

2. Heat oil and butter in a thick bottomed pan.

3. Sauté ingredients no: 3 in this oil, followed by ingredients no: 4.

4. When mustard seeds splutter, add onions, ginger and green chillies and sauté for four minutes.

5. Add carrot pieces and peas and sauté in medium flame.

6. Add turmeric powder and salt and mix well.

7. Close the lid and cook in low flame for 6-7minutes.

8. Open the lid and add 1 cup water and allow the contents to boil.

9. Reduce the flame, and close the lid.

10. When the contents boil well, add oats and mix well.

11. Close the lid and cook for three minutes.

12. When water content is fully absorbed, put off the flame.

13. Open the lid only after 1 minute.

14. Add sprouted peas and mix well.

15. Transfer the contents to serving bowl and decorate with coriander leaves.
