1. Haal-E-Dil Mera Poocho Na Sanam from Sanam Teri Kasam The song had two renditions by Neeti Mohan and Sreerama Chandra Mynampati, and I fondly love the female version. Neeti is one of the finest emerging voices of Bollywood, who has given many chartbuster songs earlier. Himesh Reshammiya returns to melody with the songs of Sanam Teri Kasam which were highly appreciated. The song was written by Sameer.

3. Jag Ghoomeya from Sultan  The biggest hit of the year, the songs of Sultan too were highly appreciated. The movie included dancing numbers such as “Baby Ko Bass Pasand Hai”. But my choice is definitely the soulful “Jag Ghoomeya” in Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s voice. The song was first recorded in Arjit Singh’s voice and later re-recorded in Pakistani singer’s voice, and the move invited a few controversies too. But “Jag Ghoomeya” in Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s voice is really touching and no one can deny. The song also had a female version sung by Neha Bhasin.

4. Dekha Hazaro Dafaa from Rustom This soft romantic track was sung by Arijit Singh & Palak Muchhal. The song featured Akshay Kumar and Ileana D’cruz, and the music was composed by Jeet Gannguli. The soft tracks of the film composed by 4 composers got noticed and lyrics of all songs were penned by Manoj Muntashir.

5. Jeeta Hai Chal from Neerja The movie based on real-life incident was one of the early hits of the year 2016. “Jeete Hain Chal” sung by Kavita Seth is the top song of the album.

8. Keech Mere Photo from Sanam Teri Kasam The song featured the newcomers Mawra Hocane and Harshvardhan Rane, and the duo looked cute and amazing onscreen. Neeti Mohan rendered her voice for the track composed by Himesh Reshammiya, and the song was beautifully picturized.

The song was co-written, composed and sang by Badshah. Sukriti Kakar and Neha Kakkar provided the female vocals for the song. The song was co-written by Kumaar. The music video recorded over 11 crore hits this year.

13. Love You Zindagi from Dear Zindagi The song was recorded in fast and slow versions. The song has definitely given a major break to Jasleen Royal who sang the song. 14. Title Track from Sanam Re One of the top romantic albums of the year, the title track sung by Arijit Singh became extremely popular. The song was written and composed by Mithun.

15. Woh Mere Aana Pe Khil Jaana Tere from Raaz: Reboot Film may be flop or hits, songs of Emraan Hashmi’s movies will always be noticed. Music of this sequel was given by Jeet Gannguli, and this particular track (Yaad Hai Na) was sung by Arijit Singh.

16. Pashmira from Fitoor – One of the top romantic tracks of the year, the song was composed and rendered by Amit Trivedi.  17. Yeh Fitoor Mera from Fitoor The title track was sung by Arijit Singh and composed by Amit Trivedi. All the songs were extremely melodious. Apart from Pashmina mentioned above, Ranga Re and Tere Liya are next best tracks. Less-heard song Ranga Re may not be the favourite of many. But I loved its music score as well as beautiful rendering by Sunidhi Chauhan. The song had an English version sung by Caralisa Monteiro and the music composer Amit Trivedi provided the male voice for both these versions.

18. Tu Hai from Mohenjo Daro Nowadays A. R. Rahman composes just one or two music albums for Bollywood a year. This particular track was sung by A. R. Rahman and Sanah Moidutty, and got noticed also. The movie was a huge flop at box office. Lyrics were penned by Javed Akhtar. The song featured Hrithik Roshan and newcomer Pooja Hegde.

20. Title Track from Sanam Teri Kasam  All the songs are extremely melodious and it’s the best work of Himesh Reshammiya as a composer in the recent times. I added three songs from this movie to my list of top 25 songs of 2016. The duet was sung by Ankit Tiwari and Palak Muchhal, and lyrics penned by Sameer.

21. Hua Hain Aaj Pehli Baar from Sanam Re The song featuring Pulkit Samrat and Urvashi Rautela hit top music charts of the year. Its music was composed by Amaal Mallik. Amaal recorded this popular duet in his voice, aside Armaan Malik and Palak Muchhal.

22. Let’s break up from Hello Zindagi Definitely one of the best breakup songs of the year. 2016 witnessed many shocking divorces and breakups. Two breakup songs of the year became extremely popular – Break Up from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Let’s break up from Hello Zindagi. I chose Alia Bhat’s song as my favourite and added to the list of top 25 songs of the year.

23. Jab Tak and Phir Kabhi of M. S. Dhoni: The Untold Story  The songs from this super hit are extremely melodious and topped many music charts. Jab Tak sung by Armaan Malik is definitely the highlight of the film, great composition by Amaal Mallik. I also loved the popular track – Phir Kabhi sung by Arjit Singh.

24. Dil Ye Ladaku from Saala Khadoos The movie starring Madhavan and Ritika Singh was released in Tamil and Hindi versions. Tamil version titled ‘Irudhi Suttru’ was a hit while Hindi version flopped. I loved the Tamil version of “Dil Ye Ladaku” titled – “Ey Sandakaara” for its lyrics written and ‘different’ rendition by Dhee. Its Hindi version was sung by Monali Thakur. Music was composed by Santhosh Narayanan.

25. Kala Chashma from Baar Baar Dekho I would like to end the list with this high-charging dance number. The music video went viral over net and received more than 15 crore views in Youtube. The song featured Katrina Kaif and Sidharth Malhotra. Music was composed by Badshaah. He also rendered his voice for this huge chartbuster hit aside Amar Arshi and Neha Kakkar. Yet songs such as Jag Ghoomeya from Sultan, Sanam Re of Sanam Re, Pashmira from Fitoor and Haal-E-Dil Mera from Sanam Teri Kasam are some of the finest compositions of the year.

Quality of Bollywood songs have deteriorated over the years in the recent times, though most of the top chartbusters register millions of hits on Youtube. Yet a few soft songs also got noticed. Nowadays party numbers and dance songs are high in demand, and it’s not an easy task to identify each playback voices. Hope the good era of melody will return back to Bollywood.
