Mukul Dev – Bollywood actor who made screen debut opposite Sushmita Sen in Dastak

Mukul Dev is an actor who appears in Hindi films and TV soaps. He has been associated with Hindi entertainment industry since mid-1990s, and made his acting debut with Doordarshan serials before he joined Bollywood. He played lead and parallel lead roles in many movies of 1990s, but couldn’t get success. With early 2000s, he moved to supporting roles and also gave more attention in Television, which gave him popularity among family audience. He was one of the handsome young Bollywood actors of the second half of 1990s who couldn’t make it big in lead roles.

Mukul Dev was born in Delhi. He joined television industry in 1995 through the Bollywood countdown/comedy sitcom show, Ek Se Badkar Ek, aired on Doordarshan. He played the lead role of Mukul in the show who tries to impress the heroine, the character played by Karthika Rane. The show’s success earned him first break to Bollywood through Dastak in 1996, and the movie was directed by Mahesh Bhatt. It was followed by a string of flops – Mere Do Anmol Ratan, Wajood, Qila, Kohraan, Mujhe Meri Biwi Se Bachavo etc, and he played lead or parallel lead roles in most of them.

Gharwali Uparwali was his first show on television aired in 2000. He was associated with television till 2008, and later got fully engaged in Bollywood and regional films, playing supporting roles. He returned back to small screen with 21 Sarfarosh – Saragarhi 1897 in 2018. He played noted supporting roles in Son of Sardar and Yamla Pagla Deewana in the recent past.

Mukul Dev – Some interesting facts

1. Mukul’s father formerly served as City Commissioner of Delhi.

2. During his early days in Bollywood, he was best known for working with former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen in her debut film, Dastak in 1996, a couple of years after she was crowned. However the movie was a flop.

3. He shared screen space with Arshad Warsi in a few movies in the 1990s.

4. He was paired with Madhuri Dixit for Wajood, and Mamta Kulkarni for Qila, the movie best known as the last screen appearance of Bollywood legend Dilip Kumar.

5. Apart from Hindi, he has worked in Punjabi, Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu language films in supporting or antagonist roles.

6. He was a member of the winning team of the TV dance show, Kabhi Kabhi Pyar Kabhi kabhi Yaar.

7. He is also a dubbing artist for live action films.

8. He played antagonist for many TV shows and a few films also.
