Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury – The director of Big B starrer ‘Pink’

Director of highly acclaimed and award winning films like Pink and Antaheen, Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury is a filmmaker of Bollywood and Bengali movies, and a distributor of Telugu films. He marked his directorial debut with Bengali film, Anuranan in 2006 and since then has directed many critically acclaimed and commercially hit movies in Bengali and Hindi languages. Antaheen earned him National award for best feature film in 2008, while Pink earned him National award for Best Film on Social Issues apart from many Indian and international honours.

Predominantly associated with Bengali cinema as a filmmaker, some of his Bengali releases are Antaheen, Ekti Tarar Khonje (producer), Aparajita Tumi and Buno Haansh. In 2016 he marked his Bollywood debut directing Pink, and shot to instant fame. The film remained in limelight for a while because of the realistic theme he chose, highlighting women’s safety and rights. Chowdhury grew up watching Indian and foreign movies, and Haati Mere Saati is one such Bollywood film. Initially he was associated with theatre followed by ad films, before he started making Bengali films. With the success of Pink, he is currently working on a few realistic scripts.

Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury – Some interesting facts

1. Chowdhury was seen in a brief role in Amitabh Bachchan starrer Piku. Later he directed the actor in ‘Pink’, one of the best movies of Big B in the recent past.

2. His other name is Tony Chowdhury or simply Tony da, by which he is known in ad field.

3. As an ad-film maker, he was associated with this field for more than 16 years.

4. His debut film Antaheen was screened at several international festivals and also won four national awards.

5. His debut Bollywood film Pink was invited for a special screening at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
