Vashishtha Narayan Singh (1942 – 2019) was an Indian mathematician best known for his PhD research work of reproducing Kernels and Operators with a Cyclic Vector at University of California, Berkeley. He was known for challenging theories of Albert Einstein, especially his equation of mass-energy equivalence. This maths wizard was suffering from mental disorder schizophrenia for a long time since the age of 40, and lived a much neglected and unknown life in his native village Basantpur of Bihar during his last years. He was not even recognized by state government. However in 2020 he was honoured with Padma Shri by government of India posthumously.
