Sunder Sukka – Painter from Telangana known for depicting rural folk and livestock

Sunder Sukka is an artist and painter from Mahboobnagar district of Telangana State. Best inspired from the rural life right from the child, it remained his major inspiration of his works. In most of his paintings, we can see people carrying a lamb, and the relationship between rural folk and livestock are well expressed through his works. He is married to artist Karuna Sukka, a leading printmaker and painter. The couple has conducted one exhibition of painting and prints at Shrishti Art Gallery, Hyderabad in 2011.

Sunder Sukka was born in Mahboobnagar district of Telangana State in 1978. He made his first sketch at the age of 10, and his artistic talents were supported by his parents and elder brother, a signboard artist. Sunder also took inspirations from elder brother to become an artist and succeeded in this field. He exhibited his works for the first time as a part of a group exhibition conducted in an art gallery in Hyderabad in 2007, and from there on marked a successful career in the field. His first and only solo art show titled – Discourse of a People was displayed at Tamkanat Art Gallery, Hyderabad in 2014.

Sunder Sukka – Some interesting and unknown facts

1. His father is a Golla Suddula performer. His father has also worked as a migrant labourer in Madhya Pradesh, and Sunder has been inspired by their daily life which he portrayed through a few of his paintings.

2. He mostly depicts rural themes, and a lamb is almost a permanent fixture in his paintings.

3. He also portrays livestock regularly in his paintings, and shows the relationship between man and animals.
