D. R. K. Kiran – Art director of Tamil Cinema

D. R. K. Kiran is the professional name of Vetrivelan who works as an actor and art director in Tamil film industry. He is associated with cine industry since 1990s as an assistant director and assistant art director, before beginning his career as an actor and art director. He is regular with his acting roles since late 2000s, and was seen in Anegan, Kathakali, Thirunaal, Yaman, Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum, Paayum Puli, Vedhalam, Kavan etc. As an art director some of his best works are Kavan, Kathakali, Anegan, Ko, 3, Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal, Kaappan, Podaa Podi etc.

D. R. K. Kiran hails from Tondiarpet, Chennai. Born into a non-filmy background, he initially had no idea how to begin with, in the film industry. He wanted to become a director, and he was recommended by one of his friends who worked as an assistant art director in the industry. He worked as an assistant director and art director in the industry in the 1990s before turning a full-fledged art director. He also worked in television and ad field during his early phase of his professional career.

1. He was born on the New Year day of 1974.

2. Initially he wanted to become a film director. But after working as an assistant art director in the 1990s, he realized the responsibilities of art directors and decided to switch over his dreams and passions.

3. He has worked with ace ad-film maker Rajiv Menon for 5 years in the early 2000s, recommended by his wife Latha Menon who was impressed by his work in Kandukondein Kandukondein with Nagaraj.

4. He worked under Raghavan for the art direction of Alaippayuthey.

5. He has worked behind more than a thousand commercial ads, under different ad-film makers.
