Ashwini Kumar Choubey – 5-Time MLA of Bihar

Ashwini Kumar Choubey is an Indian politician from the state of Bihar affiliated to Bharatiya Janata Party. He represents Buxar constituency in 16th Lok Sabha led by Narendra Modi and joined Modi’s cabinet in September 2017 following the reshuffle. He serves as minister of state in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Before joining national level politics, he has been a senior and veteran leader of Bihar politics who has served as MLA of Bihar 5 times.

Ashwini Kumar Choubey hails from Bhagalpur. He is an agriculturist by profession. He was a student union leader in Patna University during college days in the 1970s. A 5-time Bihar legislator, he served as a minister of Bihar during 2005-2013, handling portfolios – health, PHED and Urban development at different points of time. In 2013 he lost his cabinet power when JD(U) severed ties with BJP. After that he joined national level politics, became a parliamentarian and cabinet minister.

Ashwini Kumar Choubey – Some interesting facts

1. Choubey has been credited to giving Buxar seat to BJP which has been held by RJD till then.

2. He is a prominent Brahmin face in the state politics of Bihar.

3. He actively participated in the JP movement in the 1970s, and when emergency was declared in 1975, he got arrested and jailed.

4. Known for his public service towards sanitation, his toilet campaign slogan – “Ghar ghar mein ho shouchalaya ka nirman, tabhi hoga ladli bitiya ka kanyadaan” got noticed.
