Rishi S. Kumar – ‘Mudiyan’ of Malayalam screen

Rishi S. Kumar is a budding actor and dancer associated with Malayalam small and big screen. His quirky hairstyle is his trademark, and it also helped him to get many roles in the entertainment industry. He catapulted to fame playing the character ‘Mudiyan’ in the popular comedy sitcom, Uppum Mulakum. His character is Vishnu, the eldest among siblings, and along with his hair style, his appearance with a big frame without glasses, his accent and body language, his character for the show became an instant hit. In 2018 he made big screen debut through Neeraj Madhav’s Pypin Chottile Pranayam playing the lead role. Earlier he has done several uncredited brief roles.

Rishi is a native of Kakkanad, Ernakulum. His father is a businessman. He was initially a dancer before he took acting roles, and has participated in the dance reality show D 4 Dance for Mazhavil Manorama. His popular show Uppum Mulakum has already crossed 700 episodes. Initially he was reluctant to accept the role, but his family wholly supported him.

1. His ‘Freaken’ look in television shows especially Uppum Mulakum became his trademark style, and now his fans who appreciated his role for the show ask him to keep it.

2. He is almost a perfect dancer and he is fully confident about his acting skills. He is a self-taught professional dancer.

3. He dreams to travel across the world. He also wants to do comic roles onscreen, and loves to work with Vineeth Srinivasan.

4. Though several people criticize for his hair style, he neglects such negative comments.

5. Through the show Uppum Mulakum, he earned the nickname, ‘Mudiyan Chettan’ or simply ‘Mudiyan’.

6. He played many side-kick roles on big screen during his initial days in cinema.

7. His parents sent him to dance classes during his childhood days, but he quipped it. But later somehow he got interested and learnt it through YouTube videos of Micheal Jackson. Interestingly he started liking this legend only after his death.

8. He started growing hair soon after Plus Two. Though his father questioned him once, his parents never interfered in his decision later.
