Fara Shibla – Malayalam actress who gained weight for the lead role in Kakshi: Amminippilla

Fara Shibla is an upcoming actress from Malayalam cinema who marks her screen debut with O.P.160/18 Kakshi: Amminippilla in 2019. Most interesting part is she gained 20 kilos to make her fit for the role, similar to a plus size heroine in Dum Laga Ke Haisa. Bhumi Pednekar gained weight for her debut film and stole audience’s hearts. Fara plays Kanthi Sivadasan in her acting debut in a lead role opposite Asif Ali and the movie is helmed by the debutant director Dinjith Ayyathan.

Fara Shibla hails from Malappuram, Kerala. In 2011 she was one of the finalists of a reality show on television, after which she got offers to anchor shows. As the new profession was interesting she dropped a course and shifted from Bangalore to Kerala to continue with anchoring. She also started attending auditions, and got a brief role in Cinema Company. She met Vijit soon she married very soon and continued with her anchoring job. After delivering a child she lost her body shape, and was in her attempt of restoring old figure when she got the lead role for Kakshi: Amminippilla. Interestingly she was asked to put a few more pounds.

For Shibla it was not easy to gain weight. Yet she succeeded in her efforts. She even stopped her work outs and Zumba classes, and started working on her diction in Thalassery dialect used for the film. After one month when she sent her video to the director, he got impressed. She continued with her efforts including eating a lot and turned 85 kgs. In an era of body-shaming her role as Kanthi Sivadasan perfectly fits the bill.

Fara Shibla – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. She is an anchor turned actress.

2. Fara weighed 68 kilos when she went for film’s audition. As instructed she went a physical transformation and gained almost 20 kilos to play Kanthi Sivadasan in Kakshi: Amminippilla.

3. After the film shooting she reduced her weight by 15 kgs and now planning to reduce 10 more.

4. She idolizes Bhumi Pednekar of Dum Laga Ke Haisa fame for her film role.

5. Her son Veer Abhimanyu was three years old when she attended auditions for Kakshi: Amminippilla.
